The Social Security Act applies different rules at different ages to address the additional challenges that older workers face when applying for jobs that they have not performed before. In general, the Social Security Act and Social Security regulations view younger workers as having an easier time transferring to a different line of work than older workers. Generally workers over 50 have an easier time getting benefits.
